So back in April, I talked (rambled) about the current “standard” or meme regarding web design – Content is King.

Towards the end of that article I asked who would be the queen if content was king?

Again I go back to the chess analogy.  In chess, the king is considered the most important piece; whereas the queen is ordinarily the most powerful piece.  If played correctly, the queen can command the board.  That being the case, what do you consider your most powerful asset in terms of web development?

If you search the web, you’ll see a variety of answers to the question.  Some say its SEO, some say links, some say community, and others say…well the list goes on.  Obviously its a question that is very open ended and up to your interpretation.  That being said, here’s mine.

If content is king then your site’s design is the queen.  Take a moment to think about it – reflect back on your own browsing habits.  How often have you been searching for something online, but found that the site you were interested in either had an ugly design, information was hard to locate, or just something about the design seemed off to you?  Do you stick it out or do you hit the back button as fast as you can?

Just like a well played queen can command the board in chess, a well designed site makes your content easier to digest.  Combine good content with good design, then those other things I mentioned earlier will start to emerge – links back to your content and maybe even a following (community, subscribers, insert metric of choice).  As far as SEO goes, that should be a part of your queen’s arsenal (incorporated in your design process).

Couple a good king with a good queen helps to building a prosperous kingdom ^^

Now like I said, the question is pretty much up to your interpretation.  I am no web guru.  Just my view on the subject, as someone that spends more than enough time searching around the internet for stuff ^^;

Again decided to use Saber to illustrate my post.  Sadly, I don’t recall ever seeing any Guinevere related images from Fate.  So I decided to instead go with this smexy Saber Alter image.
